This week, I did an update on the Matador situation at College and Dovercourt. While I don't doubt that parking is a problem there, that should be more an encouragement to hop on the 506 and use transit. But what is the TPA and the city advocating instead? Tear down a near century-old building and pave over it with a 20-space lot.
The Parking Authority has been known to many as a rogue agency, but it's ridiculous that it's taking precedence over the local councillor, Adam Giambrone, who seems to be backtracking on the project. City council wholeheartedly gave its support to the TPA to begin expropriating the lands and pointed out that the west-end YMCA needed the space for cars, even though its head office denies that claim.
We need more streetcar lines or more streetcars on the line, not more parking spaces that will hardly put a dent in the amount of traffic congestion found on that stretch of road. Giambrone is the area councillor, but also as the chair of the TTC, he should be lobby against more parking in his ward.
